This section presents how different mechanisms of the MonALISA system work.

  • The Intrusion Detection System is a new component of the MonALISA system in its current implementation. It is based on a distributed agents platform. Each agent gathers different types of attacks information that is then disseminated to the other agents in order to assure a safe system.
  • The WAN Topology section proposes a way to construct and use the topology of networks based on standard tools like traceroute, tracepath and ping.
  • The Application Monitoring API is a very flexible set of programming interfaces orriented at providing the means for any application to send monitoring information to MonALISA system. The library provides support for 5 programming languages: C, C++, Java, Perl and Python.
  • Monitoring VRVS section shows how MonALISA is used to monitor, administrate and self-organize the VRVS System.
  • People need to share their resources among themselves for extending their collaboration.
Based on the MonALISA agent platform, we have developed a storage and retrieval system. It is a distributed, peer-to-peer, completely descentralized system that is well aware of its environment's dynamism.
  • The Local Information Service Agent is a lightweight monitoring agent that runs on any end-user's system (Linux, Windows, or MacIntosh) using Java Web Start technology. The LISA agent detects the architecture on which it is deployed and dynamically loads the binary applications necessary to perform monitoring and end-to-end network performance measurements.
  • Optical Control Planes section presents how MonALISA agents are used to monitor and control optical switches and how to create on demand an optical path/tree for end user applications.
