The network at SC07 was built using the waves provided by SciNET (Figure 78), consisted of
multiple  10Gbps  high-speed  wide-area  communications  links  from  Pacific  Wave,
Internet2/Abilene, NLR and others. A single dark fiber was also used to connect from the show
floor to Caltech and rates on it measured 9.6Gbps - the highest throughput achieved on any of the
waves.

The HEP team also carried out several other demonstrations, making good use of the seven wide
area network links connected to the Caltech booth. These demonstrations included disk-to-disk
transfers from Reno (Figure 79) to the University of Michigan, CERN, KISTI, Brazil and
Fermilab. By efficiently utilizing network links, the difficulty of transporting Terabyte and larger
scale datasets among multiple sites is substantially reduced, thus enabling physicists throughout
the world to be able to play more significant roles in the next round of physics discoveries.
