Networking Infrastructure plans for 2008:
National infrastructure:
The main goal for the national infrastructure is to implement the RoEduNet2 project - DF based
national infrastructure for 10
years. Part of the budgets
project has been released in
September 2007 and the
tender has been started in
September 2007 and the
project has to be concluded
until the end of the year.
Unfortunately an objection
has been raised and the
procedure has been postponed
for 2008. The total budget for
the DWDM equipments was
about 6 MEuro and according
to our estimations about 70 to
80% of the total length of the
fiber will be covered. One

important advantage of the
RoEduNet2 project is that RoEduNet will not pay annual fee for the DF but will provide
communications channels for the partner, SC Telecomunicatii CFR. Also, the management of the
DWDM equipments will be done by the partner, RoEduNet will manage the layer 3
infrastructure.
The topology of the DF to be used for RoEduNet2 is presented in Figure 59. The total length is
4130 km and a number of 9 out of 41 POPs are not covered but the partner plans to expand their
network and to cover another 5 POPs in 2008 and the rest of them in 2009.
Within RoEduNet2 project each NOC is connected using at least two 10 Gbps links to other two
NOCs and some lambdas are available to provide backup GEANT connectivity and to be used to
transit Romania for some other eastern countries. Also, each POP is connected using two lambdas
to two NOCs providing layer 3 backup.
The fiber will be lighted up
using DWDM and CWDM
equipments. Some links that
do
not
have
backup
connections according with
the topology of the DF and do
not require important traffic
capacities in the future will
use CWDM technology.
The final topology of the
RoEduNet2 network is shown
in Figure 60. Red links will
use
DWDM
equipments
capable of 40 lambdas and
brown links will use CWDM.
