The number of circuits initially installed will be 97 as follows: 13 SDH64, 24 10Gbps and 60
8x1Gbps. Also 6 CWDM circuit will be installed as shown in Figure 60.
As already mentioned, about 70% of the total network will be installed until the end of 2008.
Also, in the framework of RoEduNet2 metropolitan area, DF connections will be leased for 10
years to connect the locations where DWDM/CWDM equipments will be installed to the
locations of the RoEduNet
POPs. Each NOC will be
connected
using
two
redundant metropolitan DF
segments to the premises of
partner. It should be
mentioned that DWDM
equipments will be installed
also in each NOC.

until the end of 2008, the
capacity of the links depicted with dotted blue line will not exceed 100 Mbps of 1 Gbps. Within
SEELight, the project mentioned above, we plan to close the ring between DJ-MH-CS and TM
(in the south-west of country, Figure 61).
Also, within RoEduNet2 project, national level and local level connections will be separated by
using the new national communication node installed in the premises of the National Authority
for Scientific Research. The new data center will operate all international connections and the
connections to regional NOCs. In this framework in Bucharest there will be two NOCs; the new
national NOC and the old NOC in Bucharest that will provide services for the south-eastern part
of the country.
The modernization of the data centers in Iasi, Cluj Napoca and Timisoara is planned for 2008; the
goal is to provide reliable communication services for the research and academic communities in
Romania and to be able to provide 24 by 7 operation and support.
International connectivity:
The connection of the Romanian NREN to the GEANT network is congested since September
2007 and the capacity of the link requires immediate upgrade. As mentioned in the previous
chapter, 10 Gbps link has been requested from DANTE since the beginning of 2007, also upgrade
of the DWS service to at least 1 Gbps has been requested at the same time. The upgrade to
10Gbps will be available starting with Q2 2008 according to DANTE, but due to the critical
situation a new STM circuit will be installed hopefully until the end of January 2008.
There are two main options to have RoEduNet connected to GEANT using either lambda services
or DF. The first approach was to install DF from Budapest to Athens through Bucharest and Sofia
within GN2 project. The second approach was to finish the SEELight project. The last plan is to
