the Franco-Swiss border, to collaborate with a laboratory in São Paulo to run an experiment that
requires dedicated network resources for a fixed period of time. In addition, the service will allow
Canada's national research and education network, CAnet4, to directly interconnect with
networks from Latin America who are connected to the São Paulo exchange point, such as the
ANSP of Brazil.
Figure 88 AtlanticWave and Western Hemisphere International Exchange Points
Figure 88 above shows the major communications network backbones that connect North and
South America. Miami and Sao Paulo serve as major interconnection and aggregation points
between North and South America on the Atlantic rim. This is significant for the AURA
community of telescopes in South America. AURA and FIU-AMPATH are working together to
enhance Gemini South's connection to the U.S. by connecting to NSF funded network link at the
Sao Paulo, then to use this high-speed on ramp of 2.5 Gbps bandwidth capacity to Miami.
Florida LambdaRail:
FIU-AMPATH's connection to Florida Lambda Rail (FLR) is multifaceted and consists of
various optical circuits as well as peering relationships.
