Expansion to US ATLAS Tier 2 sites:
We initiated contact and negotiations for expanding the TeraPaths testbed
infrastructure to several ATLAS Tier 2 sites (see Figure 71). The
expanded
testbed will
serve research and development needs, and allow the testing of the advantages,
reliability, and effect of prioritized data transfers in a production-grade environment.
This will enable the future step of fully incorporating TeraPaths capabilities into
production environments. On 10/23/07, a dedicated L2 network circuit (VLAN) was
successfully established between BNL and BU. Figure 72 shows the topology of this
VLAN, which is different than other existing VLANs in the following respects:
·
It spans five disparate administrative domains, each of which uses heterogeneous
network
technologies. It involves two national networks (ESnet and
Internet2), one regional network (NoX), and two local area networks (BNL and
BU).
·
The configuration and setup can be easily automated by TeraPaths for scalability,
performance, and enhanced network utilization.
·
All VLAN segments are Quality of Service aware and support fine-grained
bandwidth provisioning.
