Video, Audio, and Data Conferencing:
ESnet provides human collaboration services in the form of a network-based video, telephony-
based audio, and web-based data conferencing systems. These video-audio-data (VAD) systems
consist of five basic elements: H.323 IP video bridges, point-to-multipoint web-based video
streamer, a video-audio gateway service, web-based audio bridge scheduling system, and Dial
Plan Gatekeeper service. The overall system provides H323 IP ad hoc video conferences that can
be joined by telephone-only users via the gateway service while streamed across the Internet and
for scheduled audio and data conferences.
The video conferencing system was upgraded to more modern hardware and software in 2007.
The system is currently located at the ESnet facility at LBNL and is not replicated. Support is
provided 8:00 am5:00 pm US Pacific Time (though trouble tickets are accepted 24×7).
